I've downloaded a demo of svcd2dvd but before i can install it a box comes up and says i must install Microsoft.NET Framework Version 1.1 first.
What exactly is this ?
have a look here http://www.microsoft.com/net/ this will tell you everything you want to know. if you don't want to install this, may i suggest an alterative prog called tmpeg encoder plus. this is available as freeware and this guide http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=othertodvd&name=tmpegenc will show you step by step how to use it. there are other good progs around, and i am sure the guys here will suggest a few, however i have tried a few others, but I like tmpeg as its simple to use and does what it says on the can.
I hope you find this helpful. good luck

thanks,
i've tried tmpgenc but it seems to take forever
the average time for me is around 2 - 3 hrs. I have AMD Athlon 2.17 Ghz, 512mb ddr, on xp. I did upgrade the graphics card to radeon 9600 128mb and found an improvement of about 30 mins on converting.
I hope this is helpful.

Thanks suzy,at the moment i'm trying DVD-lab which seems ok but doesn't actually convert the mpegs like TMPGEnc.
I would have prefered to convert them to full DVD standard but it takes about 7 hours on my pc,maybe i've got some of the settings wrong.

Graphics card should make absolutly no difference with software encoding. Although nvidia's new chipset is supposed to support some kind of hardware encoding/decoding. Any software would have to be modified to make use of it though and then there is the matter of quality.
