I've tried TMPGEnc and it took around 7 hours for a 90 minute movie.
I've also tried ulead movie factory and thats no quicker, are these times lengths normal or is it time for a new pc? (athlon 1700xp,512 ddr ram).

Shouldn't take that long. Have you tried using the video as is? Not DVD complaint, but definatly quicker.

Anyway, I'm moving this to the DVD forum.

well if thats the case then you can just burn with nero in ISO mode ..... this usually wouldnt work in a standalone dvd player

*EDIT*
my post looks a bit out of place as the one above has been edited

But non compliant sources such as those from SVCD are O.K in some players but not in all. Personally I hate them. I've noticed a lot of traders on BST now using non compliant source and for me it's lazy and annoying. What riles me is folk take the trouble to do flash intos and menu's yet wont spend a couple of hours encoding. It's a real bugbear. I'd banish any crap app that patches headers or allows such source to be added. I'd name and shame em all. So to recap :-) LAZY SLOPPY ANNOYING.

Have to agree, seems alot of the people converting VCD/SVCDs to DVD just patch the headers and convert the audio, some dont even bother to join the files together. I have written a simple guide on how to convert VCD/SVCDs to a 100% DVD Complaint file, it does take a few hours but at least I know it will work in every DVD player I put it in.

You can cut out the whole part about using DVD2AVI and converting the audio if TMPGEnc Plus will accept the raw SVCD file. I only included it because when I used to try to load a SVCD file directly into TMPGEnc it would error but now it seems to accept them fine, go figure lol

Maybe you installed a compatible MPEG2 decoder or the MPEG2 VFAPI plugin? One advantage of DVD2AVI is that you can load both parts as one, joining them.

Just found out about TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress, from the description it sounds like it will put TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 to shame, will have to give it a try.
