hi,
i've just got myself an elite off flee-bay & was wondering which is the best version to have it flashed with.
is it something to do with which dvd drive it has?
i'd like to put my back-up games directly onto the hd, so as no need to use dvd's.
how would i find out how to do this if it is possible.
is this something to do with j-tagging ?
if someone could explain all this i'd be very gratefull
thanks.

LT firmware if the drive is compatible. Otherwise I would recommend a non-stealth firmware - which simply means the firmware will boot whatever you throw at it instead of only booting games that pass the stealth check. This means you have to check yourself in abgx, but this is a good idea anyway. I'm not too familiar with Jtagging but I do believe it is necessary to play games off the HDD. The firmware alone certainly doesn't do it. :)

An elite has 3 possible drives - Hitachi (only in the oldest ones), BenQ and LiteOn. All of them can be flashed using JungleFlasher and there's an in depth tutorial at www.jungleflasher.net (http://www.jungleflasher.net)
For Hitachi your best option is iXtreme 1.51 - it does do stealth checks but not on the video sector so it will still play all modern games without a boot disc. If you plan to go online, don't mod this drive.
For the other two, LT is the best option, it will play all games but does no stealth checking at all, so if you plan to use it online then you need ABGX360.
With the standard MS dash you can copy games to the official hard drive and play them from it but you still need the DVD in the drive.
If you're very lucky and the console hasn't been updated in a couple of years, it might have v7371 dashboard (check in system settings) then you can JTAG hack the console and run games straight from a USB drive.
If it has a newer dashboard version then it's not currently possible to JTAG hack it.
