Right heres the problem.

I am using pioneer 105 and having probs with burning some media at 4x.

The discs are the datasfe ritek 4x go4. I am having a hell of a job with these which is unusual to say the least for riteks.

Some of the discs will not burn at 4x but some will. If i try re burning at 2x every thing is fine. I would say out of a pack of 50 ive had about 20 refuse to burn at 4x

What i am wondering is,

Is it the drive giving up??
Memory issues??
Faulty media??

The reason i wonder about memory is the system seems to get low on resourses really easy and am wondering if i have faulty memory.

Obvously i dont want to go out and buy a new drive if i dont have to.

I also have some Ridisc 4x media here and had a couple of failures with these.

Setup is,

win 98
256mb ram
1g athlon
record now max 4.5

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
What about something forcleaning the laser, is there anything i can use for that.

Thanks

steve.

You could try some canned air for cleaning out the laser. Have you updated the firmware recently or have you ever updated the firmware?

Nope, never bothered updating firmware on this drive.

Still using the origonal firmware 1.30

I have a m8, who lives near by who has a burner, i am going to take the media that was rejected and try it on his burner.
