HELP - cannot start The correct hard disc was not found ??

Hi

Just been handed a PS3 and it's the first one i have ever played with. My mate can not get it working so gave to me.

Just plugged it in and sony blah blah came up the straight to black screen with

'Cannot start. The correct hard disc was not found'

Any ideas where to go from here peeps.

try a new hdd in it and install the os onto it via usb
