Gave comp to guy to wipe the drive and install xp.

He installed xp pro and i started getting the 'not a genuine copy' message.

I installed my original copy of xp HOME and installed the cd key, everything is fine but when i turn on the comp i get the option to load either xp home or xp pro.

How can i uninstall xp pro.

Ive tried googling it but everyone seems to says to do it via the add remove programs option but no windows xp is listed ?

any help please

Did you install home over pro or on separate partitions? An OS won't be listed in add/remove programs.

You can remove 'XP Pro' from the boot up list by right clicking 'My Computer' selecting 'Properties' go to the 'Advanced' tab, and select 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery'. Here you can choose default operating system, time to display list (set to '0' if you don't want to see it), and some other options.

It might be a better idea though to reinstall XP Home, and format your hard drive during the installation to ensure you don't have any other problems in the future.

xp pro was already installed so i assumed that if i installed xp home it would overwrite the pro version.

i was obviously wrong and i assume that because i can load the computer with either home or xp that they have installed on seperate partitions.

i really want to get rid of xp pro to free up the large chunk of space it taking.

It would have asked you when you installed. It may be installed in a separate folder rather than another partition.
