Ok folks i have installed a fresh install of windows 7 on my pc but at startup now it goes to boot manager and asks me to choose 1 of 2 o/s' as follows:

windows 7
windows 7

Before i fresh installed i was running windows 7 rc on 1 partition and the same windows 7 im using now on another partition.

When i choose the first option it doesn't load anything and on the second loads what im using now (win 7 64bit) perfectly.
Anyway to resolve this?

cheers

You can use EasyBCD to edit the BCD file and remove the unwanted entry. Or I think there is a way to edit it in Win7, just can't remember where. Just be careful with EasyBCD and make a backup copy of BCD first.
If they are both named Windows 7 make sure you get the right one. The #1 entry will be the first one / top you see at boot up. #2 will be second etc..

Or you can just set the default instance to boot to in Win7. Right click Computer >> Properties >> Advanced Settings >> Startup & Recovery >> Default OS

Phils around he may have a better answer?

When i look in the default os properties it only has windows 7 as the option...cos i had 2 windows 7 os' to boot from originally the rc and now full version...I know its the second windows 7 option on my startup boot manager
but how do i get rid of the first win 7 option?

Install EasyBCD and run it, see what it shows. I'll bet it will show two 2 entries.
Just use the Add/Remove entries, delete the one you don't want, making sure you get the right one, and save the file.
Do make a backup copy first! Using the Manage Bootloader Menu Tab >>Backup Settings

I guess I should have also asked.... Do you want or need to boot into the Win7, "first option" version, that is currently not working/booting?
Or are you only planning on using the version that now works and boots?
If you don't care about the non-working 7, then deleting that entry will make the boot option go away and you might be able to fix it later to boot both/either copy. If your not going to use the other copy at all... Don't reformat that drive/partition until you are sure which drive the bootloader is currently residing on. Chances are it's on the drive you first installed Win 7 to.

Hey m8 installed that prog it only show's one entry which is windows 7, As does msconfig
here's a snip of msconfig: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7007/msconfig.jpg (http://img94.imageshack.us/i/msconfig.jpg/) http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/msconfig.jpg/1/w581.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img94/msconfig.jpg/1/)

I only want to boot into the 2nd option on startup as there is nothing else on my hd as i formatted it...the only thing i didn't format was the 100mb system reserved partition i bet if i formatted that to on fresh install it would've alleviated this problem?
Don't think there's any other choice apart from fresh install and formatting again including that 100mb space?

cheers

MSconfig does not show the correct info most times. It doesn't on mine.
If EasyBCD only shows one entry in the View Settings Mode then I have no idea what's up. As it has to be in the BCD file. Only thing I can think of is that you have more then 1 BCD file on your PC and it's not booting from the drive you may think it is.
Search your entire Computer for a file named BCD, you should only have one. If you do only have one, then it has to be in the MBR itself. And unless you really know what your doing, don't go messing around with it.
However, I would not format that reserved partition, unless you want to wipe everything and start all over again.

Why not just use a workaround and set the timeout option to 0 seconds. The addtional entry is in no way harming anything. Or is the real problem that the 7 version it's booting to at startup (without changing it) isn't the working copy? And you can't set the working copy to default as everything is only showing 1 Entry?

You may need to rescan your system using the Win7 install disc, recovery mode at startup to solve this.

Only got one bcd m8 and it reports 1 windows 7 boot option gotta be in the mbr.
If i set the timeout to 3 seconds wont it always choose the 1st option on the boot list? (the one i don't want).
I formatted everything anyway (aside from reserve 100mb partition) so re-doing it ain't a problem.

You'll have to reinstall all you apps, but yes that should fix it. Before you do that why not try booting to the Win7 disc, enter recovery mode, or whatever they call it these days, and try a few of those options.
You can even load bcdedit from there if you're comfortable using command line options and entries.

To be honest m8 i've never really tried commands etc...would be easier to re-format and start over as i have all my apps etc...on a ex-hd and it only took me an hour or so from start to finish the other day.

Ok so last night i thought sod it and just deleted the 100mb system reserved partition to see what if anything would happen.
I restarted and it didn't go to boot manager...after initial boot screen it then came on with a screen saying what system i had ms os with 2 cores 3372 of memory...then went off to another screen which listed a load of system 32 drivers...then just loaded up my windows 7.
Seems to have solved the problem of choosing the 2nd option problem...i can now switch on go n make a cuppa then come back and it's all there waiting to be used (similar to the wife:) lol)

Probabaly wasn't the right thing to do but seems to have worked...i probably will do a fresh install at some point though.

cheers
