Why Athlon all the time??
I in in the same predicament, and am looking at high end laptops...
and was considering the AJP 8070
P4 3.2 ghz, 1gb ram etc
Would the Athlon be better than that?
What is Centrino like?
and Intel M??
Where can I find the complete lowdown on the pro's & con's of all these processors?
unless you can tell me... pls?
Cheers.

FYI, Centrino is not a CPU, it's a technology encompassing a lower powered Intell M CPU, built in wireless and a 855 chipset.
Go here to read more about it. http://intel.com/products/notebook/centrino/index.htm

It's "PENTIUM M" that I mean then...

It's a laptop... so what do you intend on doing with it and do you care about battery life or not? The AMD's may be fine chips on a desktop system but they're terrible at power cunsumption.
Do you want good performance and don't care about the battery life, or do you want a longer battery life at the sacrifice of a little performance?

I intend to use it as a wireless desktop replacement.
Downloading music, editing my Digi pics & videos, and generally just surfing the net and playing games.
I want the best performance WITH good battery life
... is 3 hours poss? (for no real reason)
Go for the P4 3.0 ghz (or more) Mobile CPU. Note: not the Pentium M.
They use Speedstep technology which downclocks the CPU in real time when you arn't runing any intensive programs to save power.
I have a 3.2 Ghz P4 Mobile CPU in a laptop and 3 hours of battery life is reasonable for it.

The AJP website seems to be down for the last few days ...
Can't remember if the AJP 8070 (flagship model) was mobile CPU... think so...
What make and other specs is yours Neo??
I'm open to suggestions of what to get!

You don't want a desktop pentium in a laptop, they are big & get hot. Therefore, you get a mobile pentium.

changed my mind after doing some research and i have today gone out and bough a toshiba lappy model a60 with a mobile p4 3.06gig and 512ddr with a dvdburner for £899 from dixons (yes i know they are poo but i didn't have time to shop around.)
seems that the amd processors are not really up nto scratch and also it is difficult to find one with an amd cpu that also has decent gfx built in.

Nice spec though!
:(
The AJP 8050d has a Dothan Pentium M processor 725.

(I'd get upgrades on the RAM, disk drive and hard-drive)
Any other top spec suggestions, please??
