The circuit city deal is great, yes, but a ps2 has been around three years & if you don't have one by now you probably aren't interested :-)

Not necessarily, with games coming up like: Gran Turismo 4, FFXII, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the highly anticipated Killzone, it is still well worth purchasing a PS2 if you don't already have one. This is going to be an exciting year for games. :D

Yeah, I know. The PS3 probably won't be released until 2006 and even then it will probably be another year before they get a good selection of titles for it. So realistically the PS2 should be good for another 3 years and with the upcoming releases I would definitely pay $150 for a PS2 bundle at this point (if I didn't already own one). ;)

i don't get why people preorder systems and games. i rather wait and see if the game/system is really worth the money.

They want to be sure they get it.

Funny thing is, is that when it really does come out its a lot cheaper than they paid for it preorder.

Exactly. I think after this time around, A lot of people are going to hold off until the price wars start. With 3 competing consoles it shouldn't be more than a year before it happens. There are other reasons why it is good to wait. Among them: 1. improved hardware/chance to work out the bugs 2. A good selection of games for the system doesn't usually happen until about a year after it's release. Anyways, I still say a system with only a 3 year run does not encourage me to buy into the next generation.

Nintendo DS is a GBA replacement if anything- GC is dying for sure (which is a shame cos i reckon it has the most unique games on it- xbox games and to a slightly lesser extent ps2 games seem very forumlaic IMHO) but don't thinkits being shelved

ps3 in 2006? where in japan or other countries?
ps2 came out in 1999 in japan, that is really what you should go by.
ps2 is getting crusty to me, i dont play it alone only with my son, but every game i see
now days starts to look really pixelated and primitive.

after staring at ps2 games on and off for 4 years, i'll buy the ps3 as soon as it shelves in the usa. ps2 honestly doesnt look that great anymore to me, nore xbox or gc.

if ps3 does turn out to play ps2 games aswell, then my ps2 will be running ps2linux no doubt. besides doing what it is intended to do, the ps2 cant really do anything else besides run its own linux distro. yeh it can...err sort of play dvds, it can sort of play XviD but doesnt do it well.

as far as the so called "Backups"...well i dont expect that to happen for a long time if ever on the ps3. (although i still think you should be allowed to copy the image to a hdd and play it from that, but no corporation cares about peoples fair use or rights for that matter...not in the united states of america atleast.)

btw, if ps3 comes out in 2006 in usa...that will be the longest amount of time between consoles that i have lived through in my video game history (1981-????). So i expect it to come out in 2005 atleast. Hopefully this doesnt turn into a thing like ms longhrn and possibly take forever and a day.
