A site I usually visit on the web, now displays little red X’s in a box in place of a graphic. It only happens on this particular site. Is it a problem their end or is there a setting that needs adjusting on my computer?
Cheers,
Jessica

A possible solution:
If you are getting a red X where pictures should be, it can be an easy fix.
First off, make sure it is happening frequently, not just on a website here and there because there can be a problem with the server hosting the website ( from your post it sounds as if it may be this ).
However if not:
You can also try refreshing a page (refresh or F5). You can verify Internet Explorer is setup to show images by going to Tool, Internet Options, click the advanced tab and under Multimedia make sure Show Pictures is checked. Make sure you have the latest updates for Internet Explorer from Windows Update.
After that you can try a registry fix:
Standard Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Quit Internet Explorer, if it is running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type Regedit, and then press ENTER.
Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif
Double-click the Content Type value in the right pane of the Registry Editor.
In the Edit String dialog box, type image/gif in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
Double-click the Content Type value in the right pane of the Registry Editor.
In the Edit String dialog box, type image/jpg in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
Quit the Registry Editor.
Start Internet Explorer and open any Web page with a JPG or a GIF image.
Hope that helps
if u just want to see what the picture is and viewing it on the webpage isnt too important you can always right click --> properties and then copy+paste the url in ur browser that shud display the pic

try emptying your temporary internet files, it worked for me
It might be that its java/flash and you don't have it installed. And as stated, clear your cache, cookies, temp files.

Hi Ellal,
Thanks for the reply.
Done everything you suggested. Still the same. Must be a problem their end. I would post the site address for you to see for yourself, but the rules state that I’m not allowed to link to other sites.
Thanks for trying to help me.
Cheers,
Jessica

To Mmace and PS2Wiz,
Thanks for replying.
I have a program running called Windows Washer. It deletes all my internet bits and pieces every time I disconnect. I doubt very much if that’s the problem. It now looks like it’s a problem their end.
Cheers,
Jessica

Just found this…
This is a site (www.dabs.com/uk (http://www.dabs.com/uk)) mentioned in the ‘Recommended Online Buying Sites for UK & Europe’) that also displays little red X’s in boxes where graphics should be. Does any one else here view this site in this way?
Let me know.

U could try running Adaware and Spybot on your computer to clean it up of any Spyware , (it slows down your computer and loads things on that u dont want) the web site might load then, if u want more on those email me thru profile

If it’s not a fault their end and everyone else can see the site okay, what’ needs adjusting on my computer? I haven’t changed anything (honest). Dabs have recently re-vamped their web site. I thought it had something to do with that. I’m obviously wrong.
So, how come I see little boxes with little red X’s in?

It’s okay – just sussed it! :insane:
I had my cookies off….
My privacy level was set to ‘Block All Cookies’. As soon as I changed my privacy level, the whole site became viewable.
Cheers, :wavey:
