I see it all the time advertised to come with some of tigerdirect.com's pc's they sell. I heard it has some of the same drivers as windows and is better in some cases. Just curious if anyones heard of it or used it. Your feedback is appreciated. thanks.

It uses Linux drivers, not windows, and it's also now called Linspire after to many lawsuits by M$. It's a very dumbed down version of Linux, and like Linux the OS is very stable, but the GUI is buggy, with frequent crashes. If you look around hard enough they are always giving alway developer versions of Linspire (Lindows) for free, and it beats the 99$ price tag.
If you want to install Lindows approved software, you need to pay 4.99 a month to d/led it from their site, and this ticks off most hardcore linux users, since they are used to everything being free. Like the rest of Linux, the programs available are very limited, and there are few to no games, etc. If all you want to do is surf the net, its not a bad OS. It's set-up to mimic XP in its appearence, but be linux driven. The source code has NEVER been released to the GNU public, nor is it avaible for free, unless you find a promotion. It's also a resource hog, as opposed to other Linux OS's that can be installed in PII's and K6's with ease. I run it on one of my laptops, just for something different, but to actually USE Linux, I'd stick with Mandrake or Redhat, and if you like Windows, stick with XP..........my 2 cents..............

strandville: reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows. It's your best bet so there aren't remnants of lindows.
