Last night I was reinstalling Windows XP on my PC…
...Right, I’ll stop right there. I know what you’re thinking, but stick with me, this gets better. Anyway…
...I found myself thinking along the current train of thought: the XBOX 360 is one of the most powerful PowerPC-based consumer device ever made. There was a day (several of them in fact) when MacOS ran on PowerPC. It still does. The 360 has a multiprocessor array more than twice as fast as the PowerMac I’ve got under my desk. So what would it be like to run MacOS on a monster a quarter the size of my PowerMac with badass graphics and integrated network hardware, for $1300 less? I looked online, and all I’ve been able to find are two year old references to hacking an original XBOX to run Jaguar. Obviously the whole Intel phenomenon has got us distracted.
But still… the concept has promise I think. I might just find myself making an attempt at this, but I’m not quite sure where to start.
What do you guys think?
