Hi guys,
My laptop shut itself down with no warning about a month ago. It was plugged in the mains at the time. No windows is shutting down or anything, just complete instant shut down.

I switched it on again and it began to boot up OK and window began to start and then same again......

I suspected overheating as the laptop had been on the couch arm and had been on for a good few hours, so i left it over night and it switched on no problem next day.

At this point, i started to only use the laptop on a board to stop it over heating (hopefully).

Its run fine untill last night and then it shut down the same as before.

I'm still thinking overheating of the CPU.

Anyone offer any further suggestions?

I'm thinking is there an application anyone can recommend that can monitor the CPU temperature?

Cheers in advance.

Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/) is a good tool to have. Also, try SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php). Check to make sure the CPU fan is still working OK.

Cheers Van Nugent, i have downloaded SpeedFan and will see how that goes. I see that Everest is a trial version, so i'll wait till i'm back from my holiday to download that.

Thanks again.

Yep, Everest will give you more details on the system but the Pro and Ultimate versions are not free. Everest Home (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html) is free but because it's a bit old, I'm not sure whether (1) it can work OK with new Windows (Vista and 7) and (2) it can read the probes on the new mobos?
