right, i've got a dell 531 amd pc running windows 7, 2gig ram. turned pc on and avast says you have a virus, so run scanner and deleted the files, problem i now have is i can't turn pc on, it comes up with a black screen, tried to put win 7 back in to repair but i now have no dvd drive ( it's not recognized ). so i went into bios and everything is greyed out so i cant change any settings. the dvd drive doesnt seem to be available in the bios. i've no idea what to do, avast is up to date ect. any help please. thanks jimmy

Are you certain it was bios you went into, as it's very unlikely that a virus would mess with bios, these days.

Unlikely ..... did you try booting with the W7 Disk ....i.e. powering up the machine with the disk inserted ?

yeah i tried that but it doesnt recognize the dvd drive, even in bios too and it wont let me change the settings to add the drive

Try clearing the CMOS (disconnect the PC from AC 1st). This will reset the BIOS and hopefully it will let you change the settings. If not, read the manual to see if there is a jumper on the motherboard that locks the BIOS to prevent unauthorized modification of the BIOS.

got it sorted, somehow the boot order had change, thanx for your help m8
