virus, now need help vista reinstall

am running vista with avg free, malwarebytes, spybot, adaware and everything updated. downloaded a *cough* copy of google earth scanned it nowt found so installed. then windows defender pops up saying socks.exe has been blocked. then an error pops up and keeps doing it every min saying path to c/localappdata etc etc cannot be found cant install(cant remember name of exe that was trying to install sorry). so rebooted boy was that a mistake. windows errors memory errors everything, cant find sidebar exe, malwarebytes exe deleted. loads of exes disappeared including anti virus stuff. all system restore points removed so time for reinstall however, vista goes thru copying files and at expanding files just sits at 0%, have had a look around and saw summat bout removing all attached usb devices thats done but still no joy. im no beginer but im by no means an expert so if any1 has any advice can u make it as easy as poss to understand please :)

When you install Vista, remove the existing volume on the HDD then recreate it to ensure you start everything fresh with a new MBR (and any virus, if any, hiding in the MBR will be removed).
