Ok we've got 4 laptops running on a wireless network, consisting of a 10MB Virign cable broadband connection through a 54Mbps wireless router in a cupboard downstairs.
Downloading is fine, im currently on my lappy upstairs getting 1.15MB/s on newsleecher. However browsing for me (and everyone else) is a big problem.
Even when im not downloading anything, I always get pages part loading (i.e. no images) or not loading at all (page cannot be displayed) or a page will load but as soon as i click on a link the subsequent page will just go straight to page cannot be displayed.
Thought it might be IE8 so I changed to Chrome. Its a lot nicer and faster but still have the same problem, except it now says "oops, this link appears to be broken" when i know for a fact it isnt.
When I plug the laptop directly into the cable modem downstairs i have no problem whatsoever, leading me to believe its a problem with the router.
We've ordered a new 108Mbps router but I cant understand why I have no issues with connection/speed downloading through NL but browsing is such a hassle?
Thanks in advance
:cheers:

Enter the router's HTML admin setting control to set the MTU to 1492. If it doesn't work, try 1490. If it doesn't work, are you running XP or Vista? :)

You'll need to try resetting the MTU first. Unless you changed the UserID and password, they're like admin/blank or blank/admin for the userid and the password, respectively, where 'blank' is nothing entered in the box. Also, try admin/admin.
Or you can reset the router. Refer to the manual of the router on how to reset it.

yeah i had changed it, ok i reset the router, MTU was set at 1500 (dont know what it was set at before I reset but i'll assume it was 1500 as i never changed it)
switched it to 1492 and it seemed to get worse, so changed to 1490 and it does seem better. will try it out for a while and see if its improved.
thanks for the help mate :tup:
Edit: It seems fine with previously visited websites (I guess theyre cached), but new websites are a big problem. I just tried:
www.microsoft.com
www.hp.com
www.amazon.com
and they all came back as page unavailable. MTU is currently set to 1490
If I click the above links they now work pretty much straight away, but if i type a new site into the browser that i havent visited before we're back to square 1. few page refreshes and it eventually loads :confused:

Please try 1400. If 1400 does not work right, set it back to 1492 and try a TCP/IP reset:
- Rightclick the Command Prompt icon then select Run As Admin to open an elevated admin Command Prompt box;
- Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt box then press <Enter>;
- Type netsh int ip reset in the Command Prompt box then press <Enter>;
- Reboot.

ok tried that, still no better really, getting "Resolving host" in the status bar at the bottom followed by "Oops! This link appears to be broken" quite a lot, or sometimes this:
This web page is not available.
The web page at null might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.

Let's try to issue the commands separately :) (MTU on router set to 1500):
- Rightclick the Command Prompt icon then select Run As Admin to open an elevated admin Command Prompt box;
- Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt box then press <Enter>;
- Reboot
- Rightclick the Command Prompt icon then select Run As Admin to open an elevated admin Command Prompt box;
- Type netsh int ip reset in the Command Prompt box then press <Enter>;
- Reboot.
