got a external HD, and its got stuff on it music films etc,
but its not letting me send big files over from my pc HD to the external HD..
also when i use torrents the files ive downloaded before wont work when i try and share them..
the HD works over going the other way round and it plays files no probs.. but seems to have closed a door on me putting stuff on it..

Make sure the external drive is formatted in NTFS. If it's in FAT, it could only work with smaller files. Rightclick on it in Windows Explorer then select Properties. It'll tell you if the file system on the drive is NTFS or FAT.

How to Convert a FAT16/32 Volume to NTFS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881).

When you receive the following message at the command prompt, type the volume label of the drive that you are converting, and then press ENTER:

whats the volume label?? and the HD was in fat..:t_down:

A volume label of a hard drive is the name you give to it when you format it to easily recognize it if the system has more than 1 HDD. You can also give/change the volume label any time by opening the HDD's Properties in Windows Explorer (*). Examples of a few volume labels of my HDDs: VAN-HDD01, VAN-HDD02, Asus-AMD-Main, Gigabyte01, etc.

Edit: (*) Or rightclick then select Rename.

i formatted it into ntfs, it was the same:(.. have now formatted the full HD and when ever i try and move a file from my pc to external HD its like the power seems to goes in the HD, and it stopped transfering the files.
does this sound like a dodgy lead? or the HD is knackered?

It could be a dodgy Enclosure or PSU.

Try taking the drive out of the enclosure and hooking it up to your PC .... this will tell us whether it's the drive or the Enclosure that's faulty.
