Got me an acer T180 pc machine will not boot anymore gets as far as the acer splash screen with the del for setup and f12 for boot menu and then sticks there doesn't give the first post beep
So far i have reset the CMOS removed the battery taken out the graphics card ram hard drives and optical drives
The drives are all spinning when it boots to the splash screen and i can hear the hard drives stopping when switching it off
Am thinking that the mobo is knackered but was wondering does anyone have any other ideas before i replace it
Cheers

Have you tried booting with a Windows Installation CD and see if you can get into Recovery Console ? ..... (assuming XP)

Have you fitted new Ram in this by any chance, as lots of folk who did had problems with new Ram and not booting. Acer released a bios upgrade to solve the problem.

Naw the rams been in the machine for over a year
You don't have a link or anything m8 for the bios upgrade ? on top of that any ideas how im going to get it on if the machine will not even boot ?

Here's the link to the bios (http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?recordid=3889&formid=3394&website=AcerPanAm.com/us&siteid=7293&words=all&keywords=&areaid=7), but you will need to have the system up, before you can run it.
See if you can boot with XP CD and get into Recovery Console first.

If you haven'rt changed anything for a while and it's just suddenly started misbehaving, I doubt it's the bios though.
If you have a spare PSU, this may be worth trying, as this was another problem with the budget Acer boxes.

Cheers m8 will try once i get in and let you know
Think this will fix it but getting it to boot is going to be the problem i think

I would have thought if it was the PSU then it wouldn't boot at all rather than power everything and just stick ?
I think i have another PSU in the loft i can hunt out to try

Hmmmmm. ..... it's not looking good.
When you reset the bios, did you remove the power lead and change the jumper ?
ScoobieDoo

Yea even pulled out the CMOS battery as well when i did that
You don't turn on the power with the CMOS jumper on the 2nd and 3rd pin for clearing it do you ?

Might be worth trying it again, leaving the battery in situ ..... try leaving it on pins 2 & 3 for 10 mins, before returning it to 1 & 2

Will give it another go tonight we the CMOS but if that doesnt work then im certain is going to be the mobo that i will need to replace

OK m8y .... good luck with it.
I've been having a look around and this seems to be a common problem with the Acer T180s ..... it's a bit of a long shot, but one guy found the problem to be caused by a USB mouse.
He tried a bog standard mouse and the PC booted normally, so if you have a USB mouse, it might be worth trying a PS2 type .... you never know ;)

Its also worth checking all of the USB port sockets, making sure none of the pins are bent, this is common on dell and acer desktops.

When you cleared the CMOS (either by taking out the CMOS battery or by using the CMOS jumper), did you unplug the PSU from the AC outlet? You need to unplug the PSU from the AC in order to clear the CMOS.
