does anyone know what the bcc is for when sending emails?
Blind carbon copy, it's in most e-mail clients.

i've never really understood why cc was used- basically "protocol" is you send the email TO the person who the email directly affects and you CC it to other parties that may be affected
when the person receives the mail, he/she can then see who it was sent to, and who else it had been cc'ed to. If i have to email my supervisor relating to some work with another student i'll send it to him and cc the mail to say his secretary and the other student i'm supposed to be working with
if you use bcc then basically anyone on the bcc list can't see or reply to who else the mail was sent to- if that makes sense.
I use bcc if i want to send out a mail to multiple groups of friends that i don't want to mix(e.g. uni mates and old school mates)
hope this makes sense- it doesn't to me :D- particularlythe difference bettween to and cc
The difference between To and CC is that the person/people in the To field are the people the letter/e-mail is addressed to. The people in the CC field are not named on the letter, but have some interest in it. For example, at my work, nearly all official letters and memos get CCed to the business manager, even if they don't really concern him.
This is my understanding of it, I might not be 100% right. I guess the to and cc thing is not really needed, but is more a throwback to proper letter writing.
