Im having a problem sorting my dads pc out...... the story goes

He formatted it last week and couldnt re-install xp. Ive tried everythng i can. taking out all cards etc that i can and eventually changed the graphics card which now lets me get further on the install.

However i can tget a full install. ive ried straight from cd and from boot disks..it just keeps going round and round to the start where it formats etc.i never get to the real install phase to put in the product key!!!

any ideas whats wrong???

cheers

have you checked that the cd is clean, or scratched and that your ise cables are in correctly.

get a tin of spray air and spray all the components and sockets in case that there are some particles shorting it out, worked for me once

might be the mobo but personally i would err towards the hard drive. give it a good format, checkdisk etc.

in truth it sounds like one of those.... you try all the bits one at a time and either get lucky or end up building a new PC in the process.

There is a message that comes up after formatting and transferring files that says to press any key to boot from CD Rom. Don't press a key.
You should just let it boot from the the HDD so that it can proceed with windows installation.

Had same problem at work. All I did was change memory and it worked fine :)
