Hello

My sons xbox is temperamental as to whether it decides to play disks or not (plays fine one day, next day have to reboot many times) so I was wondering if it's possible to get the key from the exsisting modded drive and transfer that into a different one (I dont have original backup) If so, are the new liteon drives less picky as to the media used or is this just something i gotta live with? I know that verbatims are recommened for this problem but these games all work in the xbox360 just at times it acts like my missis at that time of the month.

Oh yeah and where to get another drive if this can be done?

Ive found that the lite on reads verbs and aones the same. I still would recommend verbs as they are affordable, but aones did work in different lite on drives fine.

some drives are tempremental though. My friend had a hitachi and it would only play on verbs, none of the cheaper disks.

As for swapping the drive, as long as you have the key then as far as im aware you can swap drives. Sure i read somewhere that it is advisable to flash the same type of drive for use on live (but you may get conflicting info about that) But you can spoof other drives into you xbox as long as you have the key.

Im with Benvo on that one you have to take it back to the modder to do it and he would basically have to follow the same process as modding accept for the flashing portion depending on the flash he can set it a slower speed for the reading also which would increase your chances of a better read on cheap media but I say go for the verbatims

Just to sum up what's already been said

It's possible to get the key from the modded firmware, you would get it the same way you got it from the original firmware and you would still have to spoof it to match the original drive that came with the 360.

I don't know if the new liteon drives are any better reading discs but they are trickier to flash (process may have improved since last time I read up on it though). I've only ever used verbs and not had any problems. I figure spending a few extra bucks on discs is easier than having to replace the drive because of cheap discs.

As for where to get a replacement drive, I've only used eBay. I imagine there's other places though.
