I got a xbox 360 that shows this message when you turn it on "Can’t find the update disc. Please insert the disc" I dont know what update it wants. It wont let me access anything it just stays on this screen. There is no hdd attached. I have tried holding in the syc button and restarting but with no luck. ( I read that this would sort it)
How can i fix it?

If holding in the sync button while booting the 360 (you have to keep it held in for a while) doesn't work then the only other solution that I know of is to send it in to Microsoft.

How long is quite a while? Roughly

A few minutes IIRC, until it's booted to dash (or the purple screen again)

Nope, didnt work. I will try and get it sent back to MS as rrod. Whats the best way to make that happen, can I unsolder something. I have tried over heating it loads of times, but it dont go too 3 rrod.

Thanks for your help mp3boy

Still pretty certain this is what happens after curing E66

You could be right. I think Crackdown was the game that had the Fall update on, the one which caused E66.

Try booting the 360 with Crackdown in the drive?

You'll probably have to find the update thats on the console...

Do you have a memory unit?

If you get the Kernal Vesion from the error screen (feel free to pm me an image) and Ill see what I can do.

hi ogs, theres no error code just says "Disc Not Detected" cant find the update .please reinsert the disc , and continue underneath and when u hit continue it trys to update but fails and says update failed and to contact customer support at www.xbox.com/support (http://www.xbox.com/support) . The guy who's it is had it under the stairs for at least 6 months and asked me to have a look at for him when his other 360 rrod and i fixed it for him

Clean the rubber band in the drive mechanism with warm soapy water. Should solve the drive sticking.

Sounds like a TS... Ive found 2 ringbinder strengthners stuck to the top of the case of the drive were the bit that clamps the disc in place cures.. the magnets too strong on the TS not allowing it to release the lazer part correctly.

Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.

1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

Also from MS themselves:
To install the Xbox 360 update, please follow these steps:

Leave the game disc in your Xbox 360 DVD drive.
Press the power button to turn off your Xbox 360 console.
Press the power button again to re-start your Xbox 360 console.

After you follow these steps, the update procedure starts automatically. The update will be installed successfully.
