Just wondered if anyone had come across this before.

I am unable to open Outlook 2007 as it states Outlook 2007 has stopped working when i try and open it.

When I try to repair the installation (full valid licensed Enterprise DVD) the error message says that MS Setup Bootstrapper has failed.

I have tried all sorts, uninstall then reinstall but its only Outlook that has a problem.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

Are you trying to repair it from the Program and Features menu in control panel (assuming its vista as you didn't say) and if so try running setup from the DVD and selecting the repair and change feature.

Apologies for not mentioning that I have Vista - I have tried repairing the installation from both the control panel / Programme and Features and via the repair on the DVD.

I get the following error report when it states the Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working half way through the repair:

This is common with outlook, even more so with vista

Have you tried running outlook in safe mode? you can do this by doing the following GOTO Start / Run and type outlook.exe /safe

If outlook works in its safe mode ok then the problem is being caused by an addin, so you can then goto Tools / TrustCenter / Addins / Click GO on COM Add-ins and disable them all, then you can enable them one at a time checking each time that its running ok until you find the culprit.

If all of the above fails, then the only other option left is to create a new email profile in outlook, more details here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918
