I did have a 106, but had to return it, as it failed at the end of every DAO (closing the session the buffer would drop to nothing, and the disk would be ruined).

However the writer was fine using SAO/burn at once instead of Nero. But that's no good for Nerovision express2, a program i intended to use a lot

If i buy a 107, is it likely i'll get these same closing session problems? Never swapped the 106, just returned it.

One thing I have learned m8 after owning an A05 and a 106 which is on it's last legs.

IMHO buy the retail version everytime, OK the 107 is supposed to be identical to the A07 in every way but don't you believe it. Some of the OEM drives seem to have highly dubious backgrounds and even bear the names of manus you never ever heard off too. Bet you didn't know that they are often even flashed by the retailer with the official Pioneer firmware too before sale to mask the real identity and try to make it an authentic Pioneer. They almost never have the black Pioneer logo on the front of the tray either as do the retail drives and many seem to suffer a very high failure rate too.

My retail A05 outlived an OEM 106 by miles and when I replace the 106 it sure will be with a retail too.

Depends where you buy it from I guess. Pioneer have for some time had a warning on their website here about illegal OEM imports. One would imagine that the official OEM's are of better build quality.

All the OEM's I have seen have no logo and generaly come complete with burnt software.

It was from blankdiskshop/svp communications which is generally a reputable dealer, although i have heard stories of them selling rebranded Medion.

Is it likely to be a one off that i was having DAO closing problems? Ran a search on google and only found one similar result. Or is it just not happy with my config?

All i need is something that will burn reliably, with fairly cheap media (guess that's G04 stuff) and work with Nero/ nerovision which can only use DAO.

EDIT: my 106 came with a foldup pioneer installation guide, but no branding on the front disk tray, so make of that what you will. I only had it a week before i ended up sending it back (every DAO session close failed - 7 disks wasted).
