Hi,
I'm looking for a new printer for my new pc.
It must have a good dpi and a good ppm.
I dont want it to cost me an arm and a leg to get new cartridges ect...
What would you guys recommend? I heard Cannon were good but could really do with some help. Is it worth getting an all-in-one printer?
James
The HP Photosmart printers are really nice. I'd recomend one of them.

What are you using it for? I have an Epson Stylus 960. It prints great pics from a digital camera and it also prints on cdrs and dvdrs. You have to buy the printable media though. It has 7 ink cartridges. I buy the whole set off ebay for $42 shipped give or take a few dollars. When I looked for this printer I found the best deal by going straight to epson.com. They only wanted $250 with free shipping and they give you the cord to connect to your pc. On pricegrabber the best price was $270 plus shipping and you have to buy the cord seperate. This was about 5 months ago. The price may have come down now.
I guess this one replaced the 960. It looks really good.

I wouldnt get a HP the ink prices are terrible. I would got with an Epson or a Cannon. Ink are not to bad for them and the printers are good too:

You don't say where you're located. If you're in the UK try
http://www.office-world.co.uk/livp/webliv.pgm?action=start&wwgoto=web510&wwrts=y&wwlevel=2&wwcatg=030040000000&wwsearch=5150&wwtab=SHOP&wwsubmenu=1
I got one last week from my local store at £59-95. Results are stunning - and for the money you'll need to be using a hell of a lot of ink to make buying anything comparable worthwhile. The Canon i865 is highly rated but that is twice the price of the HP.
Oh & btw it's free shipping as well!

Whatever you do, check out the price for replacemrnt Cartridges, before buying.
I agree with GSM Super Star ... HP prices are disgraceful, often £55 or more, to replace both .... and Lexmark are worse still.
The initial price of the Printer may be as little as £59, but you will be paying almost that each time you need Cartridges, so the initial price of the Printer is not your only concern.
I agree HP Printers are good quality etc., but way too expensive to run.
Do your Homework first ;)

They are doing New Lexmark printers for £25 near me and to get both inks its double that :( But at £25 you can use the printer till the ink runs out and throw it. As ink costs more than that.

 .... that's how desperate they are to get their customers .... the logic is .... give the printer away for free (almost) and then sting you thereafter !
.... then again ... they are a part of IBM, so what do you expect ;)

At least with Epsons and Cannons you can get Compatible Cartridges which are usually OK. But HPs and Lexmarks you can only get Remanufactured Cartridges which means the Print Head has been used three or four times, they give crap printouts.
But HPs and Lexmarks you can only get Remanufactured Cartridges
What? You can buy new cartridged for HP's just like any other.
I find HP printers to be the best in my opinion. I rather spend more money for quality than less money for lesser compititions.

I think the point he was making m8 was .... you cant get compatible HP's or Lexmarks, only remanufactured ones.
Sure you can get originals, but these are v. expensive, compared to compatibles.
I've used a couple remanufactored cartridges, and never had trouble with them.

I've used a couple remanufactored cartridges, and never had trouble with them.Yeah ..... so have I ( I have an HP959C as well as an Epson).
Thing is my remanufactured ones for the HP cost £27 for 1 Black & 1 Colour, whereas for the same money, I can get compatibles 4 blacks & 4 Colour for my Epson C44.
The HP is good and has the edge on the Epson, I wouldn't argue with that, but it definitely aint 4 times better ... and I'm not prepared to be part of HP's "rip-off plan" :D

Well ... you have to remember the C44 is out of production now and it's an entry level printer, nothing fancy, but for everyday print jobs it's fine and cheap to run.
Not the one to go for if you are going to do lots of Photo printing, although it can produce fairly good results, albeit a bit slow, compared to HP's etc.
I get my compatibles from Choice Stationery (price includes p&p)
http://www.choicestationery.com/
TBH at just under £50 and the money you save on cartridges, you can afford a new model every 6 - 12 months, if you want ;)

If u decide on an all in one multifunction printer then i got the Epson CX6400 about a month ago and am well pleased excellent bit of kit,,and the original inks for that are more than reasonable ,,peanuts if i get compatables...plus built in card reader a real bonus if u got a digi cam.

If you guys want to argue over quality its on thing, but cost effectivness its another.
I don't know about HP's UK Division but I surly don't get ripped of.
Quality: HP
Cost effectivness: You decide.
