is it possible to do with a Pcmcia card? if so can anyone recommend which card to buy for my laptop?

Unlikely, but you can pick up a generic PCMCIA SATA card on ebay for under £10 if you want to give it a go. DosFlash32 is your best bet to get it working.

doesnt it have to have the VIA chipset though? so not all ones will work?

Dosflash 1.6 will use the Magic28 Unlock method or geremia's unlock method to unlock it for any sata chipset.

Its not 100% guaranteed and PortIO would generally need something based on CardBus and not PCMCIA.

According to Podger anyway.
