touch pad stoped working

on my laptop was working fine before i turned it off turned it back on and the touchpad doesnt work atall, works with a mouse in if you go to mice options in controll panel it says "cannot connect to synaptics pointing device driver" device manager says its installed and working so.. any ideas ?

First off ...... try uminstalling and reinstalling the driver.

tried that, tried later driver also, its an acer 5050 if that helps any more

OK .... I think the mouse pad may be swithed on/off by (Fn) F7, on Acer machines ..... see if this works.

Just to confirm, fn and 7 does turn it off on acer machines, on a acer lappie and just tried.
