guitar hero world tour or rock band 2??

its a xmas prezzie for my nephew not sure which one to get are the instruments from one playable with the other?

i went and bought the guitar hero band kit as these would be compatible to play with the rockband series. however the rockband kit will not work on guitar hero games.
