Howzit All!

I've been trying to fix a problem with Windows ME (I know the favourite one). When I put a CD in the drive it will pick it up in My Computer but when I open the CD all the EXE's are the standard small dos program icon and when I run them it gives an error, everytime. For example with Corel Wordperfect 9 it says: "<unknown> has caused and error in <unknown>" Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried uninstalling Alcohol 120% and BestCrypt and still no luck.

Any suggestions are greatly appricated!

Cheers,

Rikkelz

Sounds like it may have been a bad burn.
Have your tried copying the files back to your hard drive and executing them from there?
Have you tried the discs on any other computer to make sure they are functional?

Any CD (Even originals like my XP CD) I try gives a similar error on the EXE's, and when I boot into XP on the same computer the CD runs fine... It must be some software problem in ME that is causing it but I cant think of what it could be...

Try downloading and installing Windows Installer 2.0 for Win95/98/ME (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBBACD8-C094-4255-B702-DE3BB768148F&displaylang=en).

Ok I'll try that but how can I find out about restrictions on the drive? I dont know how they could have been put there but after that <unknown> error I get the message something about the restrictions in effect on this computer. I now found out that I cant even open MS word documents from a cd....
Where could I check the policies in ME?

Thanks Again,
