View Full Version : Xbox live? How to not get banned?
HI total newbie to xbox360 , looking to get my boys a chipped 1 for xmas.Obviously will be playing backups ,but think they will want to go on live if they can. So my question is can they play backups on live ?If they do how /what are the chances of getting banned? Also while we are on is there any accesiores etc i should get for them?
Thanks in advance for any help GG27

I'm not an expert (as I don't go on-line), so I'd wait for one of the legends' to confirm 100%, but I believe you must make sure that the 360 is modded with a specific type of firmware - Iextreme I think.
In addition, you must make sure that the backup that you're playing is also patched for iextreme as well. If your 360 has been modded recently, it should be stealthed already - but do check!
The one thing to aware of is that some people are selling old games that are not iextreme patched - they'll get you banned.
That's the gist of it - but as I said - wait till someone who knows exactly what they're on about before you take the plunge.

Hi GC27, as Girth says lets wait for a Legend to confirm but my understanding is that there simply isn't a way of making sure you don't get banned playing backups online. The newest firmware is Ixtreme 1.4 (I believe that won't even boot a non Ixtreme patched game so that helps) that will give you a fighting chance but it's extremely common for people to be banned (it happens in waves not continually) even when they've done everything the best advice suggests.
Only way to not get banned for sure, is to not modify the console.
iXtreme 1.4 (and 1.41 for BenQ) offer the best possible protection against a ban.
The first ban waves were based on checking 'stealth' files in games (PFI/DMI) - some old backups had wrong files, or none at all and this rendered the console easily detectable.
iXtreme firmware evolved from this and will not boot the game, and reports a correct response to the Xbox Live Servers so it remains unaware there wasa failed boot on Security files not being present.
The problem you will probably faced with now, is that all new 360's carry the LiteOn drive, which at present can only be drive swapped, therefore, it has a higher chance of detection should MS carry out some queries on how the drives respond.
iXtreme 1.5 is in production for Spoofed drives, but its never going to be 100% stealth, however, they are not currently checking drive response to particular queries - and never have, even for older spoofs (drive swaps)

The new ban wave is upon us it seems ....
Seeing lots of reports on various sites of multiple bans.
MS time it perfectly as always :madhack:
I just read on IRC that the 360mods topic is ABL bannings active.
Off to research.

Has anyone heard of people being banned when they detect a game save or achievement from a game that hasn't been released yet? I realised I'd logged on to update my achievements the other day and I had a save from a game that hadn't been released yet.
Thanks for all the responses! I think i will just go for it & hope it does'nt get banned!
