problem with laptop

hi

I have a pentium m compaq laptop here that won't recognise my ipod when attached to usb port.
the ports are all working as it works perfect with my memory sticks, printers etc..
I'm running on win xp pro.
the ipod is working ok too as when i attach it to my desktop it recognises it fine just do not show up when attached to the laptop

any advice appreciated

Assuming the Laptop has USB2 controllers :

Try going to Device manager and removing all the USB Controllers, then reboot, let XP reinstall them automatically and see if this helps.

Or you could try a PCMCIA USB2 Card.
