Thinking of buying one of these Asus EEEPC Linux jobbies and then maybe installing one of the above on it. Just wondered if anybody here has tried it and what they think?
Also ... The 20GB HD on these is solid state memory and I have heard that it is not possible to connect up an external USB HD to it?!? Is this true?

I connected one few months ago to external USB drive for a customer, it will work, BUT !!!! the 20GB (or 12GB) models are NOT a good idea, you are not really getting a full one partition drive, they are 4GB primary and the rest on another flash memory, it will be painful to cope with larger installations.

Yeah thanks Duffy m8, been looking a lot closer at these units as of last night and can now see the limitations of them.
Far better, IMHO from my research anyway, are the new Acer Aspire One units using the Intel Atom chip + a 120GB proper HD and around the same price as the Asus units too. With a 120GB HD an external one is out of the picture then and an external CD/DVD drive the order of the day and as they are now around the £35 mark all in all these things are a good buy I think. I'm tempted to buy a Linux version not just to save £20 over an XP one but to try it out too as the reported speed/startup with these seems very impressive.

Still interested in anyone who has tried MicroXP or TinyXP though? :)

I had a 4Gb one (also used an 8Gb SD HC for storage) and put Tiny XP on it but it would hardly recognise any USB devices (like a simple USB flash drive or a Bluetooth dongle)
I ended up installing the full thing then removing what I didn't want with some software I can't remember the name of!

Yeah that's what people seem to be saying when it comes to drivers/hardware. Same thing with the Linux software on these units by all accounts especially when it comes to getting wireless networking up and running & 3G. :(

oh yeah, forgot about that, wi-fi didn't work either, even though I had the drivers!

Laz, have you looked at the Advent 4611 10" model for £279 ? I played with one last week, excellent size and spec for the price.
