I have recently installed Windows 2000 and I'm having trouble with 2 VERY annoying errors --

"explorer.exe has generated an error and will shut down"

than my desktop goes blank, this happenes anytime i try to open My Computer or My Documents or anything similar to that

"KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR stop 0x00000077 <- blue screen of death"

this happens when i'm reading/writing a dvd...followed some advice and put my burner on master and also on the master connection on the ide cable, which worked for a short time but just happened to me again...

i would go to the event viewer to give you more info but I CANT FREAKIN OPEN IT cuz i get the explorer error

i ran chkdsk /f and chkdsk /r with no solution, tried to do the repair from booting the install disk but unsure what to type in the console

I never had these problems with ME, but had to upgrade cuz I had to convert my secondary drive to ntfs in order to handle larger files and ME wont recognize it when its ntfs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've googled all these errors and cant seem to find a solution.

I just had a quick google on these too and 2 things spring out to me immediately - possible boot sector virus being one (have you scanned?), and duff memory being the other. Did you change any hardware when you installed 2000? - badly seated / damaged components can also be a cause. Also was it an upgrade (often problematic) or a clean install? - perhaps its just a bad install of the OS.

More questions than answers at this stage I'm afraid.

OK - so I guess we are down to either a duff component (first choice - memory), or a bad install. Or maybe some software it doesn't like - did you have any problems after you had first installed, before you put software on?

Also ... can you boot into safe mode and open My Comp or does this still fail?

If you are really stumped, why not run the repair console from the Windows 2000 disk, that should fix up any errors with the operating system. I'm still interested to know if you have any problems with explorer while in safe mode (this should tell you if its a software issue).

Also, why not download a RAM tester and check to see if your memory is well.

And finally - you haven't filled up that 7.5 Gb drive have you? OS don't like it if they run out of space in their sandpit.
