You don't need a driver for the harddrive itself. You would need a driver for the SATA controller that the harddrive is plugged into which is usually on your motherboard. You'll need to provide information about the controller (or the motherboard) make/model before someone can point you to the right driver.

The manufacter's website is always the best place to start.

ok....Firstly i am by no means an expert so learning as i go :)
Ok i have done the following -
Downloaded the 64 bit drivers from Asus and used nlite to
incorporate these into my install disk and get the following
errors fasttxt2k.sys not compatible or when i play about with
the drivers fasttxt2k.sys missing
I am using this set of driverssilicon image 3132 Serial ATA Driver V1.08.0
for windows 64 bit XP/2003 but not sure if i am using the right driver??
Motherboard Asus Striker Extreme
Hard Drives Western Digital WD500 AAKS SE16
I have had Vista 64 running on this machine and had no problems
with drivers/controllers when installing, but had to get rid as i do
not like Vista.
Any ideas please

Very often, you can't use the XP/2003 64-bit drivers for Vista x64 and vice versa. Go to this page (http://www.siliconimage.com/support/index.aspx?pid=0&cid=0&), select your controller's model number to search for the drivers.

A RAID setup requires different BIOS and driver than a single drive setup. You need to go to the page I had above, select the model number of your controller then download the latest RAID driver for the OS you're running. You can also download the RAID management tool from that page. The BASE drivers are for non-RAID setup.
Make sure you've configured the RAID drives in the BIOS of the motherboard or in the BIOS of the add-in controller.

Can you give better details of the problem? What happened after you installed the driver?

Well i tried the relevant 64 bit drivers first and the drives were still not being found or the fasttxt2k.sys file always seemed to be missing this went on forever and because i dont have a floppy i was going through alot of install
disks having streamlined xp with the different drivers. In the end i went to a standard drive config as i had spent loads of time on it......i suppose im too much of a noob.
Thanks anyway mate

I think the driver was not slipstreamed correctly. Yep, installing XP on SATA without a floppy is a real pain in the neck. :)

your probably right mate. Never mind im now on the pc
and just have 1TB of storage as opposed to 500gb mirrored.
I think i will back up via a NAS or something instead, remote
storage is probably best anyway as the PC and data is for
work
