Welcome. I hate say it but power calibration failure from what I've heard usually means the drive is on the way out. Also before you say I only burned blank amount of dvds well the way it was explain to me is these drives are only rated at 10000 hrs. So for those people who have their pc's on for 24/7 you can reach that in less than a year and a half. :insane: So I recommend if your not going to use your pc for two hours or more shut it off. I know that some members are going to disagree but when it was explain to me it made a lot of sense.

But why should a firmware update be the catylst for this to happen?

Could just be a coincidence, but why did you update your firmware in the first place if it was working ok?

Geoban thats just like asking why do pioneer and other firmware hackers release newer firmwares, surely if the last one they brought out was ok why did they make improvements on it and release a newer one!

if not, pulling it apart and cleaning the lens repaired many a dodgy 105 :)

thats not exactly true, new firmwares are brought out to support newer media etc for example 8x media, so what im getting at is why update as im asuming at this moment in time you aren't going to be buying 8x media to use on a 105 are you? Theres an old saying, if it aint broken don't fix it, Im just wondering why you chose to update your firmare when it was obviously working fine, Just to add though, I had simular problems with 1.33 firmware on the 105 and i've read of many others, so IMO because its a newer firmware dosen't make it better.

You could also try using a different media. It's possible that the new firmware doesn't like the media you are using, but will work fine with another type.

If you are not already, try using riteks & see if this improves things.

had sam problem with a 105 ages back, changed firmware and only wrote at 1 speed on some discs, and wouldn't write to others.bought loads of different media types and found some worked at 4 speed and others wrote a 1 speed or not at all.so i changed back to the old firmware, and u know what, all the discs started writing at 4 speed.
it was one of the hacked firmwares i used.
my opinion is now if its working dont fix it.

havnt got the 105 anymore m8.it was the latest pioneer official firmware that i re flashed the drive with.the dodgy one that i origionally put on was one of the firmwares that let u do 2x discs at 4x,and it totally sent the drive wappy.

Think 1.31 is the best firmware for the 105 or it was for me.
