I've heard you can convert a PS2 that uses the sanyo type "R" laser to a Sony Type "C" laser, its either by an eprom setting or resistor link
Can anyone confirm this or provide me with a link on how to do it.
I've got loads of Sony "C" lasers and two PS2's that have Sanyo "R" lasers and would like to convert them.
Thanks for any help

The params for the laser type are stored in an eeprom on the main board, there is also a backup of set of data that is stored inside the mechacon should the eeprom fail, ie its embedded firmware, I believe the mechacon to hold data for the 'c' type lens.
The mod in the pictures posted by geobon for want of a better word 'crashes' the eeprom and the laser params inside the mechacon are used instead.
With all that said there is sony software that will reprogram the contents of the eeprom (mechacon only on V9/10, no eeprom onboard).
If you do some digging and have access to cct diagrams you will discover that there is a very straightforward interface into the eeprom, however you still need the sony software, thats in the hands of only a few.
