Hello All,

I have a question that has me stunned and i don't know what could be the issue or what i can do to solve it.

I'm trying to get a network going between Desktop 1 with win 2000 on it and (No need to link to same message in other forum. VN) 2 with Win Xp on it.

I have a crossover cable since thats what i will be using and i also have my laptop that has windows xp on it!

The issue is when i try to connect Desktop 1 to Desktop 2 even though the cross over cable is plugged into each nic card i get Network Cable Unplugged message!!!

However, if i unplug desktop 1 and plug that connection into my laptop BAM, the connection is good, i can ping each computer, i can set up share folder everything is peachy!!!!

ALSO if unplug desktop 2 and plug that into my laptop again i get perfect connection, i can ping each computer, i can share and all that fun stuff!

SO i think i eliminated the issues with NIC, issue with Xover cable, and any other issues that i have.

Desktop 1 has IP of 192.168.0.1
Desktop 2 has IP of 192.168.0.2
Laptop has IP of 192.168.0.3

They all have same subnet mask.

Any help, any suggestions, anything would help out and is appreciated.

Thanks for looking in and have a great day

If both Desktops work ok with the Laptop, using the crossover cable, then there must be a compatibility issue with the 2 x NIC cards in the Desktops.

Why not grab a NIC PCI Card (dead cheap) and swap it out with one of the Desktops. It's not worth driving yourself nutz for £5 max outlay .... probably less your side of the pond.

Ok i have tried replacing the NIC's no Go same thing happens.

I got the router now and here is what happens.

They both are assigned an IP automatically and one is 192.168.1.100 (win2000) and XP one is 192.168.1.101.

With the Win2000 i can ping it self but i cannot ping the XP computer.
With the XP computer i can Ping the Win 2000 computer, but i cannot ping that computer at all!

Both Firewalls are turned OFF, no antivirus software ON on XP or win2000.

with Win 2000 i can see the Entire Network and see my workgroup and both computers. I can access the Win2000 computer, but i cannot access the XP one.

with XP one i cannot see the network or anything.

Any Ideas?

All this works on my laptop with Win Xp Pro on it? Maybe buyint xp Pro update and see if that works?

Any ideas would help!!!

Thanks
