mouse wont work until reboot each time

i'm running XP, and my ps2 mouse broke.

i have a new USB one, that came with a PS2 adaptor.

I cant use it as a USB for some reason, but when i set it up with the ps2 adaptor, this happens each time i turn the pc on....

1) switch on and the mouse pointer wont move at all.

2) reboot

3) mouse works fine.


any idea how to fix this, as my pc tages ages to boot up as it is, without having to do it a second time whenever i want to use it? :-(

Have to tried installing a driver for the mouse, from the makes website or something, for the usb version?
