hi all,
1st post here with an annoying problem, i baught driver 3 brand new and when i come to play it, the game sounds seem to work except from you're own car, the screchs etc are there etc but not engine or horn sounds :( i thought it was the EAX thing as ive had simular bother with other games and turning that off fixed it, however with driver 3 this is not the case! game works fine otherwise
pc is home built, spec:
Ati radion 9600
1gig DDR 2
AMD athlon 64 3000+ (running at 2.20ghz)
Realtek on board audi (using optical output, switching to analogue made no difference)
ABIT KV8 Pro motherboard
Sony DvD RW combi drive

TIA,
Jim

Get the Realtek High Def Audio driver for your OS from this page (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false).

Are you running XP or Vista and if Vista, is it x64 or x86?

Edit: Edit the link for the download.

You'll need to update XP to SP2 (http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html) as SP2 provides better audio and DirectX supports that new games require.

Edit: Also, update DirectX to the latest version here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en).

We can also download the redist package of the 3-08 DirectX here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=740AC79A-5B72-447D-84F9-EE6407ED1A91&displaylang=en). This package is more convenient when we want to do the update on more than 1 system.

I don't understand why you should have problems with the activation if it's legit. Also, the links to MS updates I had above don't require verification???

the ones that link to MS do yes.
the disc i have is a legit disc, from unknown origin, i got it with a pc i baught 2nd hand about a year ago, this is 2nd time ive tryed to install it, 1st time worked ok and this time its not letting me use it.. bit suspect if you ask me... i had baught XP home sp2 for £65 a while ago but god only knows whats happend to that! and i can't really afford to shell out for another disc but looks like i need to :( wouldn't mind making sure the system is working as required before parting with more money.
cheers for the info mate
Jim

the ones that link to MS do yes. That's the reason I posted the 2nd link :). Anyway, you should be able to download and update your XP from the above links with no problems.
