sorry if this has been asked before... I searched this site and others before posting, so forgive me...

What drives read what? I'm thinking of modding my xBox (ver 1.0 Thomson) or buying another to have modded. I want it to read back-ups of games, movies, and whatever else. Do I need a Samsung or will my drive work?

thanks

A samsung is the better option, but that doesnt mean your thompson wont work.

Be sure to use good quality media for backups and it should be ok.

phillips (older model) = very chossy on cheapo media, no cd-rs or cd-rw (very few)
phillips (new model) = very choosy on cheapo media, ive got it to work on cd-rs, but not tried cd-rws

thompson = reads most cheapo dvd-r, alot of cd-rw, no cd-rs

samsung = would read buttered bread if your brave enough to put it in lol, reads basically everything, cheapo, and top notch................................

hope this helps

bear in mind if you have a dvd burner, then it isn't really a problem.

at around £75 for a samsung drive- you might as well buy the burner if you haven't got one anyway

if you nhave lots of avi's on cd, you can if you netwrok up your pc, set xbox media center to read cd's from your pc's dvd rom drive

I lucked out on the green xbox with a sammy, Noticed that the dvd dont freeze and skip on it like my thomson did.
