My 360 Elite is in the post and so I ask, please can someone let me know (Idiot style) how I should go about flashing the drive to play backups and have the machine work on LIVE gold.
Thanks in advance for any help you guy's can give.
Depends if its a Hitachi or BenQ drive mate as to how you flash it.

As of yet I don't know which one it'll be, but can they both be flashed?
Yes, chances of it being a Hitachi 78 are slim so if its a Hitachi 79 - You needtro remove epoxy (resin) and solder a passkey onto it to enable reading/writing of firmware.
BenQ - pretty simple flash, all software based.

Thanks for the advice, fingers crossed its a BenQ, do you know if that the more common drive or is it just pot luck, which I guess it is.

Most of the Elites I have seen have Hitachi drives. I have seen them with BenQs also though.

So after quite some time my Elite arriveswith a benq drive, but i have some questions.
1, I got a VIA SATA PCI card as my mb isn't VIA but I can't get anything recognized with it in dos or windows, can anyone help, is there a way to flash in windows?
2, If i can't get this to work can someone flash for me if I send just the DVD drive to them?
Thnaks in advance.

1. You can flash in windows but I dont really recommend it. What model is the VIA SATA card?
2. Yes but that makes it harder on the person flashing it if they dont have a spare 360 around. For example I always power the drive from the 360 and use alligator clips to make a common ground. I wouldn't be able to do it this way without the console itself. Anyway there are plenty of modders around. Where are you located?

I have a logilink card with the via VT6421L chipset, I would like to do this myself if possible but I just cant get the drive recognized on the card when I boot into the DOS programme I have on my USB drive.
I'm in Tunbridge Wells, England if anyine has a flashing service near by let me know.

All is good, I managed to flash the drive! I'll soon be on my way to playing backups, just hope I don't get band from live.
Thanks all for the help.
