I've just bought an Xbox 360 & I'm trying to setup media sharing so I can play my mp3's in the living room from my PC in the bedroom.

I'm with Virgin ADSL and use their Netgear wireless router. I've got the Xbox connected via ethernet & the PC is connected wirelessly. Both devices can connect to the internet (my xbox downloaded an update) but when I try to connect to my PC in the Xbox'x "system" menu it fails at "PC Selected".

I've got WMP11 and when I go to Library>Media Sharing I tick the box to share my media & press ok, it then thinks for a bit and does nothing, if I cancel out of that box and go into it again the "Share My Media" box is unticked.

I've also opened the ports it says on this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910635) page in Network settings and it still doesn't connect.

Anyone know whats wrong?

Cheers

Theres not an option to disable the firewall on my Netgear DG834G router. I've tried adding the IP address if my Xbox to the Firwall rules inbound lisy to allow all traffic but still no joy.

Try enabling un plug and play on the router and see if that helps

I've checkd & UPnP is already enabled. MS don't let you copy mp3's from a USB drive to the HDD and I can't stream either!

Thanks for the replies.

Update:-

I'm using Symantec Anti-virus, I disabled that and Windows Firewall AND installed Zune just incase it was something to do with WMP11 and it still fails on "PC Selected".

There is an option under "Network Address Translation" to enable, disable or disable firewall on my router. I tried disabling the firewall but them my internet connection goes.

P.S. I've now even allowed all inbound services on my router for every IP address on my network (outbound is set to allow by default) and it still didn't work!
