folks

With the latest ps3 update which allows the ps3 top play divx, can you also play xvid files?

Also, to play them is it a case of buring the files to dvd as in folders for each film as a data dvd as you do for a norma dvd player that has divx / xvid capabillity?

Finally, is there any size limit to what it will decode?

Many thanks in advance!

i just burn my films straight onto a data dvd not in folders or ote, but i have some films that dont play but not sure whether there xvid or what. and i dont think there is a size limit, but i may be wrong.

Works very well for playing them straight from a USB drive in divx/xvid format.

Go to the Video part of XMB, scroll to your USB device and hit Triangle then Display All. It'll bring up a list of files on the device, highlight one and hit X to play it.

I haven't encountered a size limit yet but I think it only reads FAT32 drives which are limited to 4GB. I've played >1GB files without a problem.

the DivX support is limited to 2Gb for some reason, not sure if the same is true for streaming though

i had a divx movie on sd card but it didnt show up on the XMB, does that mean can only be played via burned dVD and USb or can i try using a different method to get it to work from an SD card? thanks

i think you press traingle on the sd card(on your ps3) and should say display all, then it show up when you look at the contents of your sd card.

No it wont be there, just press it tho.

I duno where i found how to do it, but here is a lil bit more info:

'So if you just want to be able to use a SD card to say show your photos when you want, you would want to put all of the photos in the PHOTO folder, do the same for music and videos. However, you can use subfolders if you want but you will need to view it by using the Display All option on the PS3.

On the PS3, go into your photo or music area and highlight the ms/usb drive and hit your Triangle button and choose Display All, you can now browse all of the folders on the drive/memory card.'

you can find this here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2258/ps3_music_photo_video_tips_tricks

I just included the useful bit.
