Hi,

I bought my sons an xbox360 last christmas and the box broke down but repaired by microsoft (replaced motherboard & DVD). During the repair period, I heard about modification & ability to play ngames other than the originals.

I am not a gamer myself nor very wise with the electronic/IT so take it easy with me.
I wanted to know & learn & understand the jargons you used or how it works

Could anyone explain to me:
Q1) What are the differences between "modification", "Chipped", "flash" or others?
Q2) How each works or installed to work?
Q3) Could someone list the pro & cons of each of the above + others?
Q4) Could someone lists the models under each of the heading above?

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Q1) What are the differences between "modification", "Chipped", "flash" or others? There are chips out but they do the same job as a flash but are hardware related - often costing more than required. Both chips / flashes are modifications.

Q2) How each works or installed to work? Chips are soldered to the DVD Drive usually to provide a 2nd Firmware bank (the firmware is the hack) meaning it can be turned off. The 'flash' is the procedure of changing the firmware already on the DVD Drive with a hacked version enabling you to play backups

Q3) Could someone list the pro & cons of each of the above + others? As mentioned above, Chips are more expensive and do the same job, and a more 'permanent' modification due to the fact they are a physical mod - they are present in the drive and soldered onto it. Flashes are all software related, no hardware installation required (except the hardware on the PC side of things).

There is one exception to the software flash - An Hitachi '79' whihc requires a passkey soldered onto it to enable software based flashing

Q4) Could someone lists the models under each of the heading above? Not too sure what you mean

Any queries, feel free to email.

Flashes available:
iXtreme 1.4 - works online (still possible to be banned), requires stealth patched games or originals
Xtreme - doesn't work online, plays all games stealth or unpatched or originals, single layer Xbox1 compatible on Samsung drives

The main chip available is the NME chip. It does the same job as the flashes, however you need to patch the games in a different way to the Xtreme/iXtreme compatible ones in order to play them. As far as I know this chip has no support for stealth checking so is likely to get you a ban from Xbox Live if you use it online.
