ok i already have a cable modem attached to my pc, throguh my ethernet card.

i want to share this connection with my other pc which is about 20 ft away in the other room.

will this list of stuff work?

cable #1 -

hub -

cable #2 -

ethernet card -

am i correct in thinking that the wire from the modem goes into one of the ports on the hub, then i just connect my pc's to the other ports?

tell me if this will be ok or what else i need.

thanx

Your list is fine except you need to get a broadband router, not a hub. Broadband routers are designed specifically for sharing a single internet connection.

Otherwise you are correct, plug the cable modem as well as all the computers into the router.

Well if you leave your two comps on 24/7, then you can just buy a crossover cable and 2 NIC cards, and plug the two comps directly into each other (eathernet to eathernet) then just set up ICS in windows. This will completely bypass the need for a router/hub. The only downside is that of the 'gateway' comp is off, then the other comp wont be connected to the internet.

Yeah .... a simple crossover cable is a very quick & cheap solution. I use this to share Broadband connection & Printer for my Laptop.
No good though as kyle5077says if the Main Machine is switched off.

A 20 ft cable is as cheap as chips ;)

Deffinately do not us a hub. In most cases with dsl you will either get cancelled or they will try to charge double because it shows up that you are using two seperate accounts wich costs them more.

Best way I've found is a router. You do not have to install there software either I just use explorer.
