View Full Version : Maxtor HDD problem?
Got hold of a Maxtor 250GB hdd from a m8 and its all good, formatted fine etc, HOWEVER when i load the piece of s*@t with over 100GB it fails and takes all my lovely data with it? reformats fine and is seen as 250GB again? anyway I can test it or shall i just smash it to oblivion like i wanna!! :ornament:

What Operating System and Service Pack are you using?
There is a pre W2K XP4 and pre WXP SP2 137GB limit in force.
Yeah its running W2K and i've just read about that so I'm thinking thats the problem!!

Try partioning the drive into two and see what happens then.

The Windows 137GB Capacity Barrier is also known as 48-bit Logical Block Addressing Support for ATA (IDE).
Windows 2000 require Service Pack 3 or later to resolve this issue. No reason why you shouldn't be running Service Pack 4.
It can be installed post installation but my preference is always to integrate it into the installation CD.
