just wish i could get a decent printer now really[anyone suggest anything be really appreciated] as paying through the roof for my epson 360 carts which don,t really last that long.

Yep, I'm in the same boat.
Epson reliability and paper handling (not to mention DVD caddy handling) is pathetic... but ink or more specifically CIS is cheap.
Canon's were the daddies but then they wen't down the road of chipped carts. Sick to fookin death of printers. I buy on average 4 a year and not since the mighty IP400 has there been a great printer.
Currently running a couple of Epsons R300 RX520 and they are literally doing my head in. Not a day goes by where I have to stop myself from chucking them out the window. Mostly I go over to my colour laser but that costs an arm and a leg to run.
The day a manufacturer cones along and says fug it, lets break the mould. Lets sall a good printer at the right price (no matter if it is a few £££ hundred) BUT let any tom dick or harry provide the ink. Instead of lets virtually give the printer away but charge more than the cost of the hardware for a few ML of ink.
Cnuts the lot of em.

Ive reverted back to Canon, and dont know why I left.
I agree, farting about changing chips can be annoying, but it is well worth the effort.
Is your problem with changing chips,or with specific makes of carts ?

What somebody needs to do is design a small card reader type affair that can then reset these cart chips, now that should sort most problems out. I'm surprised that a firm like JetTec or the like has not already done this, maybe they fear being sued by Canon and Epson too much. :(
