Hi folkz

Using my Liteon dvd rom just lately has been a pain :bawling: , I have a DvD rom and a DvD Burner, which have been happily running side by side for ages and just lately the Rom has been playing up by making some weird noises but if I stick a CD in it playes ok?

Have anybody got any suggesetions on what I should do, I would rather keep that Rom just for watching DvDs.

One other thought is I might have accidently deleted the temp file completly when trying to find out the problem, how would I know if the Temp file is still there?

Hi Hook, Try giving a blast of canned air, other wise I would say its not worth the aggrevation to mess with it, when you can buy a new for $30. It just sounds to me that the laser is pretty weak.

Yup, also if you want to watch DVDs, then the Lite-On is not the best choice. I would go with a Late model Pioneer or Samsung. Both are very quiet. I agree that when Lite-Ons are working properly that they are among the best for ripping but I don't much care for them in any other respect. Anyways as mentioned above you can pick up great DVD-ROM drives now for $30-$35 shipped from www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) and they aren't that much more if you live in the UK.

Maybe try ripping the DVD onto your HD and watch it from there. So the DVD-ROM doesn't have to read the DVD for 2+ hours....

Thanks for the replys guys ..:)

I'm using DvD shrink and its burning to the Hard drive so I think it might be a dodgy DvD rom, am now going to buy a new one.

Cheers for the advice.

Have you tried upgrading the firmware, it made a major difference to my liteon drive. I actually thought it was done aas was going to replace it and just upgraded the firmware as a last resort. now the drive is behaving well again.

It would do no harm to clean it with the compressed air as mentioned earlier as well thouugh.
