file delete error

hi,
earlier while making a winrar file i put a : in the name so after making it only the word before the : is shown on the file and the file is 0kb and will not let me delete it.every time i try it comes up with cannot delete file : cannot read from the source file or disk.
i tried chkdsk without the /f switch and it didnt find anything if i try it with the /f switch it says it cannot lock the drive cus it's in use by another process
i'm running xp sp1
hope someone can help me :)

edit : just set chkdsk to run at startup and it didnt find any errors but i still got the file there :/

Did you try going into safe mode and deleting it? You never know :)

yeah tried booting into safe mode and got the same errors :/

Hi , try booting up in msdos mode and delete it manually, u might have to use a start up disc first, Insert a floppy, right click on the a drive, Select format, Click create msdos Disk, Once this is done restart and boot up with this disc, you should be able to delete the file in dos mode as it is not being used now.

the file is not actually in use because it cant find it on the disk cus it contained a illegal character

Stupid question but have you tried renaming the file to delete it?

yeah tried renaming it too and it gives the same error.the file is not actually in the fat table cus of the illegal character that's why it wont let me delete it
