haven't got the NTL link on me as i'm not a customer- but 3Mbit for £50

got to be the cheapest in the uk for home users anyway right?

unfortuneately can't justify the need for it to the old man :bawling:- will have to stick to crappy 1.5mbit :D

Yup .... I just read that too, it's good news indeed.

The only disappointment was, they didn't increase the upload speed to go with it (still 128 on the 768 connection) ..... but cant grumble for free can we ;)

that's is a bit lame isn't it- as i undertsnad it in most other countries the upload and download bandwidth is the same isn't?

Its a shame if you want to upload/seed/host an ftp- admitedly if you're a leecher you're not gonna care either way

I only get 256k upload on 1 (now 1.5) download- One of my mates was saying sweden you can get 50mbit (might have been 100) for like the equivalent of £100 a month over there  dunno how true it is though

hmmm.... just been on newsgroups and to my sur[rise i just hit about 1.4 mbps according to newsbin pro: I thought the switch was gonna happen at the end of may

Now i'm not sure if i'm using it correctly but these seems like a "w00t" moment, :D

I just checked mine at :

http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/speedtest500.html

and it's still 502kbps

I will keep looking :bawling:

They won’t upgrade the upload until BT do which will won't be for a long time

Not that im complaining but their only doing this as it is cheaper the reducing their prices to compete with cheap ADSL providers

I would like to see them getting rid of their dial up service and replacing it with a 128k sevice

they have that 256k service as well in think for around £17 i think- dunno if thats been bumped to 384k in the new set up though

Now I try and be fair when using BitTorrent but when I am using a 1 meg line with only 256 u/l I've got a much worse deal than someone with equal u/l / d/l when it comes to having a minimum 1.0+ share ratio. Us UK users should have a special exemption on being so fair with sharing BT files and have a 0.25+ share ratio I reckon .... It's only fair. :)

You need to understand Lazza, 95% of the people using broadband couldnt give a toss about the upload, like blueyonder said its only a few "power users" who are interested in it, so why should blueyonder loose resources making every one have more upload if its only of use to the minority. Blueyonder also said they are looking into options for more upload for "power users" in the future.

Thanks
Kashinoda

Tell me about it- some of these new bit torrent forum based groups now make you register yourself on the tracker so they know your ip, and if your share ratio is consistently < 1, over a few different downloads using that tracker, they ban you! I've spent like 2 weeks seeding a file that took me a day to download- it is really annoying.

not sure how much leeway they give you say you need to switch of the pc- i know this is to prevent hit and run leechers but we in the uk are geting a raw deal with this policy which is starting to become more and mor eprevelant- one of the forums i was using suggest that they pass their list of banned ip's to their sister forums- next thing you know you'll be unable to use bit torrent properly at all- afterall suprnova is usually some guy who thinks he's doing his bit for the scene by getting a torrent from one site and giving it to suprnova so more and more suprnova torrents are gonna become unusable too

I was thinking this upload donwload disparity was a stupid quirk of blueyonder but i guess this is the norm across most uk providers? As far as i know BY don't even use BT for bandwidth- so dunno why they're limiting it

Nimbles like I said, 95% of broadband users dont even care about upload, you cant expect broadband providers to waste there resources on a minority. But i hear there making better upload options availible in the future.. (or so blueyonder says)

yeah your right- but every other country seems to do be able to cope (and earlier too) I'd like to know what the average BB connection in US or Oz is and how much they pay)

£50 for 3mbit dl/ 256k download is "the flagship" here

does look a bit sus though... "err.... can you up my upload- i need to upload more to get my share ratio up on bit torrent" :D

they have said they wont be upgrading the 256 service,my point with the 128k service to replace dial up is surfunlimited is about £14 pm now, so if the 256 is £17 then £14/15 for 128 sounds about right

They arnt upgrading the 256 to 384 as they odnt wont people on the 512 to downgrade to the 384 service as its oly a small difference

As far as i know BY don't even use BT for bandwidth- so dunno why they're limiting it

Do you mean that blueyonder is on BTs adsl network? if so they are a cable provider, and dont use BT's lines at all

However they do follow BT as when BT started £19 512 with a 1GB cap BY lauched their 156 service and were saying that you can DL more wheir slower service then with BT's faster one

BB in Oz is very expensive accoring to Inso, as the lines are owned by the goverment i think

Well they upgraded my Blueyonder today, in Norf Lundun .... at least my d/l's will be a bit quicker ;) :

Your line speed:

751.7 Kbps

92.1 K bytes/sec

Dave2986

Yep me too

Downstream 714 Kbps (89.3 KB/sec) 771 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 119 Kbps (14.9 KB/sec) 128 Kbps (inc. overheads)
